Description
This book on the historic Restoration Project of 1975 to 1981, published in 2025, documents the construction of the California State Capitol from its original construction in 1860 through every phase of the restoration ending with the gala reopening of the Capitol in 1982. At that time, it was the nation’s largest restoration project. Thousands of workers and artisans dedicated their talents to this monumental effort. The stunning result successfully combined the majesty of the original building with modern structural innovations.
John C. Worsley was the State Architect, appointed by then-Governor Ronald Reagan and served in that capacity into the first term of Governor Jerry Brown’s administration.
